The golf course was built as an exclusive project by the renowned American dynasty of architects: the Trent Jones’. Work on the golf course’s terrain was started by Robert Trent Jones Senior.
The project was completed by his son: Robert Trent Jones Junior. The architects succeeded in the major task of blending the natural landscape with strict international standards.
The golf course’s construction became famous in the modern era, acting as a symbol of the irreversible change occurring throughout the country.
In 1989, under the leadership of Ivan Sergeev (who at that time was the first Deputy Chief of the Main Production and Commercial Administration for Services to the Diplomatic Corps under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of USSR), construction on the course got under way near Moscow, in Nakhabino. It was to be the Soviet Union’s first and only 18-hole golf course.
The first nine holes opened in 1993. The first Russian Open Golf tournament soon followed, which was held at the Moscow Country Club for the subsequent 15 years.
The second tournament of the series, now on an 18-hole course, took place in 1994. From 1996, the Russian Open has been part of the Professional Golf Association’s European Challenge Tour.
Since 1996, the Moscow Country Club has traditionally marked the International Day for the Protection of Children with an international charity golf tournament.
Over the past 25 years, the tournament has brought together hundreds of compassionate people and allowed them to raise more than 80 million roubles, providing targeted assistance for children in need of care.
The Moscow Country Club has hosted the most prestigious golf competitions, including the Challenge Tour, the European Tour and the European Senior Tour.
In 2018, the course hosted Russia’s main golf tournament of the year, the VTB Russian Open Golf Championship (Senior), with one of the largest prize money funds on the European Tour - $500,000.
In 2018, the Moscow Country Club celebrated its 25th anniversary. It is one of the largest golf clubs in Russia by membership size.
The club maintains an active social calendar and holds many events. Over 60 golf tournaments at different levels are organised every season.
