25th International Charity Golf Tournament held at Moscow Country Club

The 25th Anniversary International Charity Golf Tournament took place on September 10, 2021 at the Moscow Country Club (affiliate of GlavUpDK under the MFA of Russia). The traditional Tournament was one of the highlights during the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Main Administration for Service to the Diplomatic Corps.

Representatives of the GlavUpDK, federal and regional departments, heads and employees of the diplomatic missions accredited in Russia, as well as famous athletes and actors — founders and ambassadors of charitable foundations — took part in the events of the Tournament.

The event was opened by Vyacheslav Fatin, Acting Head of GlavUpDK. He noted the importance of the tournament as a charity tool to help children who need support. Mr Fatin thanked the partners and sponsors of the event and wished the sportsmen a great game.

In his speech at the opening ceremony, Aleksandr Zhukov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Honorary President of the Russian Olympic Committee, wished GlavUpDK a happy 100th anniversary. He also thanked it for the charity tournament which is famous for its excellent organization and which brings together experienced golfers and the younger generation of sportsmen.

As noted by Olympic Champion Svetlana Zhurova, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs,

“25 years (of the Tournament) is a long tradition that is still alive because it does good.” She stressed that this is a family tournament that supports those whose life is not easy — children who need support.

Mikhail Shuvalov, Deputy Head of the Krasnogorsk District Administration, Moscow Region, also spoke at the opening ceremony. Viktor Khristenko, President of the Golf Association in Russia, addressed the participants: “You are not just taking part in the Tournament with a great history on the field that has witnessed more than a dozen years of history of Russian golf; above all, everyone present here has an opportunity to help those who need support.”

Over the long history, the event has become not only a prestigious sporting event, but also an efficient fundraising tool to help charities, hospitals, boarding schools, and other institutions.

This year, donations were sent to foundations GALCHONOK, Dom s Mayakom, Vazhnye Lyudi, Shag Vmeste, Vera, Gift of Life, Konstantin Khabensky Charitable Foundation, autonomous non-profit organization Liga Mechty, and Igor Butman Foundation for support and development of musical art. Foundation representatives and ambassadors received charity certificates.

In his speech at the opening ceremony, the representative of the Vera Foundation Yevgeny Stychkin thanked GlavUpDK for organizing the event and helping the foundations. He noted that, to a certain extent, the child care program that The Tournament is always helping exists thanks to this event.

The performance prepared by students of the Boarding School at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia was one of the brightest moments of the opening ceremony.

The Tournament at the Moscow Country Club, held on the first 18-hole golf course in Russia, included 72 participants: diplomats from different countries, representatives of the business and political establishment, golf professionals and amateurs, and juniors. Heads of diplomatic missions of Zambia, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Luxembourg, and France came on the golf course in Moscow suburbs.
